Australian Web Hosting company EcoHost has launched what is believed to be Australia’s first purpose-built environmentally sustainable hosting company.

The relative newcomer to the hosting market believes that there is a growing concern amongst both individuals and corporations about their impact on the environment. “EcoHost is one of the very few companies world-wide who are offering environmentally friendly hosting services to the market.” said Michael Omeros, co-founder of EcoHost.

The firm currently utilises green power sources and uses servers that have a high ratio of performance to power consumption. Where it cannot find a viable environmentally friendly source to reduce its C02 emissions, it is reducing its remaining CO2 emissions by donating to Greening Australia, who in turn plant trees which help to remove CO2 from the atmosphere. “As technology advances and the cost-effectiveness of Solar and Wind generated power becomes affordable in high power consumption environments, we will not only look to support the environment through financial means but also through greater use of renewable energy” he added.
